The term “GROW” means “to increase in size over time.” The idea of “growing something” leads one to the thought that the process in perhaps a greener method of production than other methods. Although humans can technically “grow” diamonds, the process is not environmentally friendly. This process starts with a tiny seed and consumes vast amounts of energy. The main methods for creating diamonds—Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) and High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT)—are industrial, not laboratory, processes that require significant electricity for extended periods to produce gemstones large enough to be polished. Larger diamonds have a greater environmental impact. While not inherently negative, man-made diamonds are not necessarily more eco-friendly or greener than natural ones.
